The Balance between Natural and Artificial

DESCRIPTION OF THE WORK

By using hair as an applique, my aim was to change a piece of "cut-off hair" (which is commonly considered gross) into an elegant high-fashion textile. I used artificial and natural hair together and wanted to see if they would in some way balance each other out.

INSPIRATION

I was mostly inspired by the feminist art movement , such as the Guerilla girls, Mary Beth Edelson and Barbara Kruger. Later when some of my ideas started evolving I took interest in two female artists: Marion Michell and Hrafnhildur Arnardóttir, both use hair as a medium for their artwork.

MATERIALS USED

Hair (human hair, horse hair and synthetic hair) Beads and pearls Fabrics: Silk Organza Polyester Chiffon. Soft Polyester tulle.
